What does an engineering recruitment agency do?

An engineering recruitment agency finds, screens, and shortlists engineering and operations professionals on your behalf.

Instead of spending weeks writing job ads, filtering through applications, and trying to assess technical competence, you brief us on the role and we do the heavy lifting.

How long does it take to hire an engineer?

Engineering roles are notoriously difficult to fill. In-house, it's common for vacancies to stay open for 10–12 weeks or longer, particularly for specialist or senior positions.

Through Coburg Banks, our average time to hire is just over 29 days.

We typically have a shortlist of vetted, interviewed candidates with you within a few days of receiving your brief, because we have immediate access to thousands of active and passive engineering candidates across the UK.

Why shouldn't I just recruit through LinkedIn or do it in-house?

You can — but skilled engineers are in high demand and short supply. The best ones are usually already employed and not actively job-hunting, which means job board ads alone often don't reach them.

We spend every day building relationships with engineering and operations professionals across the UK. We know where to find them and how to approach them in a way that gets a response.

We've been doing this since 2002, so we've got a strong track record of filling roles that companies have struggled to fill on their own.

What happens after I get in touch?

We'll get back to you within 20 minutes to have a quick chat about your role.

We'll ask about the technical skills and experience you need, the team structure, and the kind of person who'd thrive in your environment.

Then we get to work.

You'll typically have a shortlist of vetted, interviewed candidates within a few days.

Which engineering disciplines do you cover?

We recruit across a wide range of engineering and operations disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, civil, manufacturing, production management, supply chain and logistics, quality management, lean and continuous improvement, estimating, procurement, and design and planning.

We also recruit for senior and board-level positions — Engineering Directors, Operations Directors, and COOs.

How much does an engineering recruitment agency charge?

It depends on role. Our fees typically range between 15% and 23% of someone's basic salary, depending on seniority and complexity.

We'll give you a clear figure upfront before we start - no surprises, and we won't charge you any more than that amount, even if you have to offer a higher salary to secure your ideal hire.

And remember, you don't pay anything unless we find someone you actually hire.

When do I have to pay the fee?

Not until your new hire starts work. There's nothing to pay upfront, nothing on shortlist, nothing on interview.

Our fee only becomes due once the successful candidate is sat at their desk working for you.

Which locations do you cover?

The whole of the UK. Whether your site is in the Midlands, the North East, Scotland, or the South West, we've got it covered.

We use Teams, Zoom, and video calls to thoroughly vet every candidate before presenting them to you, so no location is too remote.

Do we get a rebate if the candidate leaves?

Yes. We operate a replacement and rebate scheme on every placement.

If you have to dismiss a candidate within the first three months, we'll either find you a replacement or refund a proportion of the fee.

What if I don't like the CVs you send me?

No problem - there's zero obligation. Sometimes we don't get it exactly right first time, and that's fine.
