You may not think that the "hobbies and interests" bit of your CV is important... but it really is!
Employers want to hear about what you do in your spare time. They want to know that you're not just obsessed with work and that you're good at socialising with others!
However, there are some weird hobbies that perhaps you shouldn't share on your CV!
Here are 21 of them.
1. "Stalking Celebrities."
Whether on social media or in real life, having an obsession doesn't really scream commitment to the job at hand!
2. "Arguing with people online."
Keyboard warriors come in all shapes and sizes... but admitting that you're one isn't exactly a great way to sell yourself as a calm and collected professional.
3. "Time travel."
Erm... if you can't think of anything real, it might be worth just leaving this section of your CV out.
4. "FarmVille."
This Facebook phenomenon has managed to hook a LOT of people to be fair... but does it show how great a hire you would be?!
5. "Eating (at least I’m honest)."
Food is life! I don't think this is a bad hobby... I just think it kind of goes without saying, doesn't it? Who doesn't love food?
6. "Frog dissections."
What?! Poor Kermit.
7. "Donating blood – 12 litres so far."
Not necessarily a "hobby" but at least it's for the greater good.
8. “Making Kung-Fu Movies.”
If I was the interviewer I would definitely ask this candidate to bring some examples of their work in!
9. "Going pub when haven’t got my kids."
Again, we all love a good pub session! Probably not appropriate for the CV though... right?
10. "Stamp collecting"
Ok, this one feels a bit judge-y. Each to their own and all that.
11. "Extreme ironing."
What is this? I want to have a go.
12. "Guerrilla Gardening."
It appears there is a whole wide world of hobbies out there that I have never even dreamed of!
13. "Mooing."
What an amoozing talent to have...
14. "Qualified Vodka Taster."
I wonder what "qualified" means..? Sign me up.
15. "Smoking."
I'm not judging smokers... but doesn't really count as a hobby now, does it?
16. "Being awesome."
Hmmmm...
17. "Work."
So, the point of the Hobbies section is to show a different side to yourself... if in doubt, leave it out.
18. "Playing dead."
I've got to admit, I'm intrigued by this one. I'd certainly want to find out more! And that's the point isn't it?
19. "Snake skin collecting."
I don't like this. I don't like this at all...
20. Witchcraft.
Wonder what they'd do if you rejected them?
21. Hacking
Pretty impressive... but not entirely legal.
Summary
So there you have it. 21 weird hobbies that you can probably just go ahead and leave off your CV!
In all fairness, some of these would be a great talking point, for the right company, but if recruiters have received LOADS of applications and are looking for a reason to turn someone down, don't let your hobbies section (however funny you think you're being) ruin it for you!
