June 20, 2023

The world of recruitment blogs is a murky place, full of misinformation and instant ‘quick fixes’ that just don’t work (you’ve probably seen all of the articles about how to “hack your recruitment.”)

Thing is, recruitment is tough – and recruitment does take time, effort and a good deal of know-how.

Luckily, there are some internet experts out there who are ready and willing to give all of the above and share their experiences. (I hope you’ll count us as one of them…)

Quite a while ago, I wrote a blog called: 10 Reputable Blogs That You Should Be Subscribed To. These were some of the blogs that make a huge difference and really do offer useful tips.

But since then, we’ve found many more great influencers out there. So we thought we’d share ten more with you this week.

1. ERE

Link: https://www.eremedia.com/

Eremedia.com has gone beyond your standard blog. It has evolved into a meeting place and community for recruiters to swap idea, helpful tools and tips.

Built for recruiter, by recruiters, it is (honestly) fast evolving into an essential part of any recruiter’s toolbox.

My favourite thing about the blog?

ERE has been around since 1998 and it has many (many) great posts and opinion pieces.

But it’s the community aspect that marks it apart.

This is a site where you can get real help for specific problems and learn from established experts.

2. Social Talent

Link: https://www.socialtalent.co/blog

We all know that social media is a vital part of the recruitment process these days.

But, it’s easy to get bogged down in the minor details and different techniques.

Jonathan Campbell and Vincent O’Donoghue provide social media training to the recruitment industry and they get to test their theories in the field so they’re certainly ahead of the curve.

The Social Talent Blog takes you inside their hits and even some of the misses. So, you can learn from their successes and failures and tailor your own strategy.

They also do some hilariously funny posts too!

My favourite thing about the blog?

The founders take a look at social recruitment campaigns from some of the world’s biggest companies.

They give you the takeaways and show how you can apply Fortune 100 techniques to your company.

3. The Recruiting Unblog

Link: http://www.recruitingunblog.com

This (un)blog has emerged into one of the best on the web.

Bill Boorman is an industry veteran with 30 years of experience and he’s passionate about hiring the person, rather than the CV.

We can relate to that.

My favourite thing about the blog?

Bill is a big fan of modern technology and building a community that means you already know your next hire before you need them.

This progressive approach really strikes a chord with us. It’s the way we like to do business too.

4. HR Tech Weekly

Link: https://blog.hrtechweekly.com/

This blog takes a deep dive into the issues facing modern recruiters and companies, from the practical problems with staff referrals to the future of work.

The blog focuses on the tech industry and startups. But it also has some sharp insights for the recruitment industry as a whole too.

My favourite thing about the blog?

There’s a slick magazine that covers the highlights of the blog, so you don’t have to dig through it to find the juiciest posts.

If you’re in a rush, head here: https://hrtechmagazine.com/

5. The Savage Truth

Link: http://gregsavage.com.au/the-savage-truth/

Greg Savage is an Australian recruiter and his blog and podcasts are pretty inspirational.

That makes sense, as he spends his time giving lectures around the world on the art of recruiting.

So, if you’ve had a bad day in the office and feel like giving up, Greg’s Sixty Second videos can give you the kick in the pants you need to get back out there.

(And in the world of recruitment, sometimes we do need that kick!)

My favourite thing about the blog?

Greg’s blog is simple, easy and lightweight.

So, if you’re not in the mood to analyse metrics and just want a quick sorbet between interviews, then this is ideal.

6. Sirona Says

Link: http://sironaconsulting.com/blog/

Sirona Consulting set out to provide entertaining, readable and useful advice to the British recruiting industry. They’re our kindred spirits.

There really isn’t a Mastermind specialist subject. Sirona Says tackles subjects as diverse as finding recruits on Spotify to building your own blog and using LinkedIn the right way.

My favourite thing about the blog?

It cuts through the jargon to give you real advice that you can use.

There is some left-field advice in there too that makes you think twice!

7. Recruiting Brief

Link: https://www.recruitingbrief.com/

This site automatically curates trending recruitment stories from around the web.

It is the best of the web, by the numbers.

There are some real gems in there and it’s a simple way to make sure that you never miss a big story that’s sweeping the industry.

My favourite thing about the blog?

It’s a clear overview of the current recruitment and HR trends.

As a side note, this could also help to tailor the content on your own blog to boost your inbound marketing.

8. HR Magazine

Link: http://www.hrmagazine.co.uk/

HR Magazine is one of the stalwarts of the recruitment industry and their magazine goes out to HR executives around the country.

The blog has blossomed into a mine of useful information, especially with regard to rules and regulations that HR managers need to keep on top of.

It has also made an effort to cover human interest stories, though, with recent stories including the benefits of a pet-friendly workplace (I wish…)

My favourite thing about the blog?

The print title gives HR Magazine access to high-flying executives, which means you get direct access to some of the best in the business every time you log on.

9. Recruitment Juice

Link: http://www.Recruitmentjuice.com/blog/

Recruitment Juice is a Cloud-based Talent Development Platform aimed at the global recruitment industry. It offers on-demand learning videos to help recruiters improve their skills.

Their blog is a gift to you.

Inevitably, the posts are right on the cutting edge of the industry and they’re seriously educational.

My favourite thing about the blog?

Recruitment Juice has to go the extra mile; it’s selling a teaching service to the recruitment industry, so it can’t simply churn out the same tired content.

Every post, then, is full of actionable advice.

They also canvas industry figureheads and get bite-sized opinions from the best in the business whenever possible.

10. Quora Recruitment

Link: https://www.quora.com/topic/Recruiting

Quora is, technically, more of a social network than a blog. But you should definitely subscribe to the recruiting section and play an active part if you can.

For a start, people ask thousands of questions a month and you will always learn something new (and usually really interesting) every single time you log on.

You can also answer questions which will help you to forge connections and you can even drive traffic to your own company website and use Quora to drum up business.

My favourite thing about the blog?

There are almost no rules with Quora and that means it’s an open discussion.

You can see what is on a candidate’s mind and you can learn so much from other people.

Honestly, Quora should be on your bookmarks list. It will make you much better at your job.
