It is anticipated that in 30 years time, an incredible 17 million people will be aged over 65 in the UK. This will be a 75% growth on today’s figure and will really impact on Health, Housing and a number of other social services. If you add to that the number of people who are unable to work and the number of people under the age of 18 and you see that in 30 years time, we in the UK will have a much bigger non-working population than a working population.
Essentially, this will mean that the UK economy and the people living on these shores are reliant upon the minority of the population to fund the country’s ability to support us and help the UK grow. Given the inefficiency in the Public Sector and blame culture, I think the eye has gone completely off the ball in the UK.
I see so many people blaming others for things, blaming their working conditions and moaning about their lot in life. In addition to that a society has been created that enables people to profit from their own mistakes at work – “where there’s blame, there’s a claim.”
There are very few that want to make a difference, or plan pro-actively how they can make a difference in their lives or in the lives of others. The real worry for any of us over the age of 35 is we really have to act now to make this difference and create an efficient economic platform for others to take over, or we will be the ones the country is unable to support in 30 years time and that might mean working even longer and harder long into our retirement.
