It is anticipated that in 30 years time, an incredible 17 million people will be aged over 65 in the UK. This will be a 75% growth on today’s figure and will really impact on Health, Housing and a number of other social services. If you add to that the number of people who are unable to work and the number of people under the age of 18 and you see that in 30 years time, we in the UK will have a much bigger non-working population than a working population. Tuesday, October 20th, 2009Unemployment is at an all time high, jobs are becoming more and more scarce and the economy is doomed…
Such sensationalism is courtesy of the UK press and if ever a nation was guilty of talking itself into a recession it is us. More worryingly though has been the attitude from some of those people who have unfortunately been made redundant or some of the long term unemployed. Our benefits system seems to make it all too easy for people to sit at home, whilst the constant flow of immigrants and “them taking our jobs” is being used from those who are too lazy to get re-qualified, re-trained or just go out and find work. Are strikes really the way to go?
Tuesday, October 20th, 2009Sometimes it’s difficult to grasp exactly what planet some people live on. We’re in the midst of one of the deepest and worst recessions ever, companies are falling down around people’s feet, and unemployment is creeping towards 3 million. The private sector has been hit incredibly hard.
And yet the public sector (or at least the Unions) feel that they should be immune to any such problems, and not only should have their jobs protected, but also feel that pay rises should be honoured.
To coin a phrase my dad might use, it beggars belief. (more…)
